Epic West Coast Tour6 Days/5 Nights (792 km)
This is the last 6 days of the longer 10 day Epic Train in Tasmania road tour. If you don't have the time for the entire 10 days, or aren't sure you're body is quite up to the whole tour just yet, then this may be the solution for you at this stage. This tour starts in Launceston and finishes in Hobart. Overnight stays include Sheffield, Tullah, Strahan, Derwent Bridge and Hobart.
Itinerary: Starting in Launceston on Tuesday 22 March 2006, ride with your group out of the city straight into rural countryside. Follow undulating backroads through to Deloraine and Mole Creek, then up and over the unrelenting Gog range. The town of Paradise is a sight for sore eyes at the bottom of the descent, then shortly after rest in Sheffield for the evening. The following days take you over the mountainous Central Plateau. Glimpse Cradle Mountain, stay overnight in the old Hydro town of Tullah, then pass through Rosebery and Zeehan before riding along the coast to sleepy fishing village of Strahan. Head inland through the lunar landscapes of Queenstown before a long day climbing Victoria Pass and Mt Arrowsmith. Get a good nights sleep at Derwent Bridge before the long, mostly downhill run back to Hobart. The final day takes in one of Hobart's best training loops, round the picturesque D'Entrecasteaux Channel. To cap off the trip on the Monday, ride to the summit of 1270m Mt Wellington then enjoy the 21k ride back to sea level for a well deserved coffee at Salamanca Place on the waterfront.
