Bike Hire information
Itinerary planning
Tasmania is hilly with windy roads, and long gaps between some towns. Please email or speak to us for asistance with planning your itinerary,
as we know the best places to stay, the best way to get there, and the best things to see along the way. We can tailor our advice to
your needs.
Quality of bikes
We offer a good selection of quality bikes to hire. Tasmania is not the place to skimp on quality so do ensure you are travelling on a bike that is up to the job. We endeavour to
keep our bikes in excellent condition and as such offer
on road assistance if you experience maintenance issues not caused by you.
Collection and Return
Bike and gear collection and return can be arranged in Hobart. As our depot is based in Hobart, unless you do not need to be fitted to the bike, it is
important you visit us at the depot pre and post your trip. Please contact us to discuss the option of commencing or finishing in Launceston as it may be possible
depending on the time of year and your experience. Freight charges will apply. Pick-up is anytime the day of hire between 9.00am and 5.00pm. Return before 10am the day after use.
Rental Policies & Procedures
Payment
All rental charges must be paid for in full at the time of pick-up. Payment can be made with cash, cheque, direct deposit
Visa or MasterCard.
Deposit
A photocopy of valid photo identification (driver's license or passport) must be provided for all rentals. In
addition to the rental charges, a refundable deposit must be paid at the time of pick-up. This deposit must be paid in the form of security with a swipe of
your Visa or MasterCard or $200 cash. When the rental items are returned, the deposit will be returned, less any damage, cleaning, or late
charges (see Damage policy below).
Late Return
Rentals returned late will be charged the single day rate for each day late.
Damage/Dirty/Lost Policy
If rental equipment is returned in damaged or dirty condition, the renter will be
responsible for cleaning and repair costs. Shop rate will be charged ($35/hr, $10 minimum), plus any parts and materials
for cleaning or repair. Replacement cost for lost, stolen or destroyed rental equipment is full retail value. Expenses incurred
under this policy will be charged to the deposit.
All Rates are in $AUS, including GST.
Suggested gear and other useful information
If you decide to camp you will need to carry all your camping gear including: a light weight tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat,
fuel stove and pots and water. A water bladder that folds is good for travelling. Try to keep the weight to less than 15kg.
Route Planning
Lonely Planet's, Cycling Australia book is an excellent resource for the normal route taken by most cycle tourists. It may be slightly out of date,
however the roads and terrain haven't changed. Another excellent resource is to plot your route or research other's trips on
www.bikely.com. This fantastic free website uses Google Maps technology and can give you elevation charts
and distances for any route you wish to plot.
Repairs on the road
It is a very good idea to have solid knowledge about bike repairs as there will not always be a bike shop nearby or
someone to help you in remote areas. Carrying a basic repair kit will enable you to deal with most minor problems, but be aware that most
bike shops in Tasmania are located in Hobart, Launceston and on the North West Coast. For major mechanical issues, please call our office and we
may arrange to have the parts or an entire new bike delivered to you. If the mechanical issue is not caused by normal wear and tear of using the bike,
you may be required to pay the full amount of the bike, and also the call-out costs of our mechanic.
Luggage Storage
We offer a FREE OF CHARGE luggage storage facility at our depot for you to leave things behind that you won't need whilst cycle touring.
Please bear in mind that the security of these items is at your own risk.
